Kalen O’Brien

MPT, BSc KIN, IMS

Born and raised on Vancouver Island, Kalen is passionate about the outdoors and staying active. Kalen received both his Master’s of Physical Therapy and a Bachelor’s of Science in Kinesiology at the University of British Columbia and continues to progress his ongoing education to ensure an elevated standard of care. He takes an individualized and problem-solving approach to physiotherapy, and utilizes primarily hands-on techniques to help his patients manage their pain so they can return to the meaningful activities in their lives. Kalen’s strength is combining a balance of manual therapy, movement optimization, patient-specific functional exercise, and intramuscular stimulation (IMS functional dry needling) to create a plan that caters both to the patient’s current condition and future goals as well.

Prior to his postgraduate degree, Kalen worked as a registered kinesiologist specializing in strength and conditioning, sport performance, and motor vehicle accident rehabilitation, as well as training and exercise programming for elite youth and adult athletes alike. Even coming from a background of competitive sport such as Karate, volleyball, and soccer, Kalen still enjoys working with individuals of all skills and backgrounds.

Outside of work he currently enjoys volleyball, running, snowboarding and golf. As an Island boy, in his free time he can be found fishing, hiking, camping, surfing, and chasing his German Shepherd all over the beach. If you want a fun, effective, engaging experience with an outgoing physical therapist, book with Kalen! Who said health care has to be boring?!
